True Words

By Jacinta Hin

Is there a word that says everything about me? One, two or maybe even three words that describe the very essence of me, the source of all I am and do, that hold the key to overcoming any challenges I may face throughout life?

I love words. When I need clarity, I turn to words.  A few well-chosen words bring me to the bare bone of life, removing noise and distraction. From here, I can figure out what matters and what to do next.

The other day I watched a movie in which the main character, a celebrity chef, realises he’s selling out. He quits his comfortable job and starts all over again. Cooking simple dishes in a food truck, he drives from city to city and recovers the spark that got him going in the first place: the creation of real (exciting) food, as opposed to comfortable (predictable) food. Along the way he reconnects with himself and the people he loves.

His words: real, return, connection…

We are born as pure love, pure possibility. Slowly we devolve; life becomes complex. We learn to adapt to our environment, adopting images of success that have little to do with who we are or where our talents lie.  We don’t always make the right decision, confused about what we feel, unable to express what we want, unconsciously acting according to beliefs that are more about survival in the external world than honouring our innate wisdom.

Consequently, head on we keep meeting crossroads. Moments that we feel compelled to reflect on the gap between outer reality and inner truth, and look to reconnect with the passion in our heart, the reason to jump out of bed each morning, the starting point of the bigger picture of our life.

Imagine organising your life around a handful of words that reflect your essence or a particular challenge or phase. To have these words always topmost in mind, steering  your choices, responses, behaviour and actions. Imagine always knowing what to say and do, how to be self-aware and confident in a healthy manner, firmly grounded in the core, free from fear and shame and other harmful feelings, guided by a deep, inner knowing.

The more you return to the real you, the more attuned you will be to the intuitive whispers of your soul’s voice, the better you will know how to relate, how to let go, what to do. You’ll make right choices, do the right thing, get into situations and have experiences that are encouraging and motivating and keep stirring you forwards and onwards, expanding the playfield of your life.

Take a moment and reflect on the gaps in your life. What words come to mind that could disentangle the knot in your heart and unlock your next move?

My words, right now: go deep, get real, create space.
