My Life is My Journey

September 26, 2012

By Jacinta Hin

I look at my life as a journey. A perspective that is hardly original but one that served me well throughout the years. As an eternal traveler I am always moving. I have a path to walk and an intuitive sense of direction that keeps me on course, or brings me back when I have wandered off for too long.

Once in a while I stand still and ask myself: where am I on my path? How do I want to move forward.

Some years ago I broke down. Alienated from myself and exhausted from maintaining a life that was less and less in tune with my self, one day I just collapsed. I quit my job, got help and started a journey of self-discovery.

I began my quest with a search for purpose: understanding my personality and my role in life. I went back to school, changed careers and got back on my feet.

Next, as my travels brought me to more exotic, spiritual places and opened my world to new perspectives, I became focused on living from soul and spirit. I turned more deeply inwards this time, discovering vast realms of who we also are quite apart from our strengths and weaknesses.

Still on the soul track, the experience of a massive earthquake in Japan, where I live, and consequent events turned my life upside down, forcing me to look outwards again. Being in a rather self-centered space I had to overcome the separation between what was going on inside and outside of me.

The earthquake awakened a profound sense of connection and love in me, bringing me the perfect key to unlock those doors of separation. The heart space is where all of us in Japan felt the pain of the devastation of the triple disaster of 3/11 and found it in ourselves to draw from this special part of our being, and that consequently became a symbol widely used to express support and empathy during a truly challenging time.

I can see how my journey is unfolding. Discovering my purpose helps me accept my role in this life, getting aligned with my soul helps me accept and love myself and freeing my heart connects me with everyone – and everything – that is out there.

I can also see how it all connects. I am not moving from one phase to another, but growing by connecting the dots of the different angles to approach my life. The space where purpose, soul and heart intertwine and merge into a single outlook is where I find my inspiration and hopefully the courage to take the right action.
